The view overlooks the Lake Sunapee region and is a stunning view no matter what time of the year!
The two most popular routes to Lake Solitude are the Newbury Trail and Andrew Brook Trail. The round-trip distance of the hikes are 4.8 miles and 3.8 miles. Both could be described as moderate in terms of difficulty. The Newbury trail is accessed from Lakeview Ave and Andrew Brook Trail can be accessed from Moutain Rd (both off of Route 103 in Newbury). The Newbury Trail is about a half mile longer each way, but it offers views of Lake Sunapee along the way (3rd image).
The Andrew Brook Trail starts at a trail head about 3⁄4 mile up Mountain Road. This is the toughest trail to the top since it crosses a couple streams that have eroded the trail so much that there are only piles of exposed rock for much of the trail.
The Newbury Trail begins at Newbury Harbor (where pin is placed for driving directions) for a steep 3 mile route to the Jack June Junction, marked by a signpost, where you can turn left to the lake or continue up the hill to the White Ledges that overlook the lake, for one of the greatest views around.
You can also hike the Mt. Sunapee service road up to the junction of the Lake Solitude Trail. Just follow the campsite signs as you enter the Mt. Sunapee Ski Area (in the 3rd parking lot). Half-way up the mountain, just after the camping area, near the base of the Sun Bowl chairlift, you will see signs for the Lake Solitude Trail. Continue up the service road where Porky’s Trail intersects with the summit to find the junction of the Lake Solitude Trail on your left.
