Description

A great day hike (~4-5 hours), and the tallest mountain in Seward, Alaska where you can see all of Resurrection Bay, Godwin Glacier, Fox Island, and even out to the Chiswell Islands!

This hike starts at 0 feet elevation on the side of Resurrection Bay opposite of Seward. Travelling south from Anchorage, take a left turn onto Nash Road a couple of miles before getting into Seward itself. Follow Nash Road for a few miles, past campgrounds, etc. About a mile before reaching the dry docks, you will see the trailheads on the left side of the road. There are no trailhead markers but you will see the small breaks in the trees where there are several trail options (all meet up within .1 miles), and you can park on the side of the road.

Follow the trail through the trees, which has a relatively steep path. You will then make it past the tree line to grass and bushes. Continue following the trail up until you are past the bush line. There may be a couple of muddy spots along the way. Once the trail gets rocky there are faint paths to follow or you can just go your own way towards the top. Choose to go as far up as you want, towards the top you'll have to do some rock scrambling, and it definitely requires rock climbing gear if you are aiming to reach the summit. 99% of people just go up to the point where you get a wicked overlook of Godwin Glacier and Resurrection Bay, but you choose your own adventure!
