This is a dream location for kayakers. If you time it right, you can paddle into this lagoon, which is a protected seal habitat, while paddling in and out of icebergs. This location also offers the opportunity to see bald eagles, sea otters, and bears.
Hikers are used to being confined to hiking trails most of the time. Kayakers ... not so much.
How you get to Pedersen Glacier is the part that requires the most planning. Chances are very good that you'll be in the town of Seward, Alaska, and will arrange for either a water taxi or a guided paddle. If you're going with a guided paddle, your guide will most likely tell you what you're doing. For all those doing their own thing...
Timing is critical. You will not be able to paddle into the lagoon with low water levels at low tide. You can paddle up the channel at high tide and enter the lagoon on your right. You could also haul out on the spit and portage to the lagoon, too. If you want to continue past the lagoon closer to the glacier, follow the glacial stream, but the tide has to be in your favor. This is where you want to remain quiet out of respect for wildlife. Keep your eyes open for bears on the shoreline and seals popping up all around you.
