5 Scenic Fall Hikes along Minnesota's North Shore

Some of the best hikes for fall foliage viewing in Northern Minnesota.

By: Allison Herreid + Save to a List

Minnesota is beautiful in autumn--head North this fall to check out some of the most scenic hikes (in terms of foliage) along the North Shore. The peak of fall color in Northern Minnesota is generally around the end of September or beginning of October, so plan your visit accordingly! Here are a few ideas to get you started:

1. Bean and Bear Lake Loop

This might be my favorite hike to do in the fall (but it's so hard to pick!). A bit longer than some of the others listed but you are rewarded with views from the cliffs above both Bean and Bear Lakes.

2. Oberg Mountain Loop

A popular fall hike for good reason. A number of spots along the loop provide awesome overlooks.

3. Tettegouche Lake Overlook

A relatively short hike in Tettegouche State Park that leads to an overlook of Tettegouche Lake.

4. Section 13 Cliffs along the Superior Hiking Trail

A short hike to panoramic views of the Sawmill Creek and Baptism River Valleys.

5. White Sky Rock

Surprise! Another awesome overlook of a lake.

Be sure to check out the Fall Color Finder on the DNR website to see current color updates for the whole state.
