Golden Hour at Golden Creek Pond

Friday's off, sunny days, snow, and some good friends always add up to a good day

By: Andrew Hoang + Save to a List

Normally these stories are fun to write because some dumb thing happened and it's always a great story to tell, but this was just a normal day. So, this will just be more blabbing about how great the weather was and how amazing the lighting was and just a lot of photos.

I scheduled my classes so I could have Friday's off, and so far I'm lovin' it. Boogie's brother was in town so we decided to head out to the Snoqualmie area just because it's so close. I was a genius and decided to wear my stereotypical hoodie and Lulu pants thinking it would be in the 30s, and boy was I wrong. Some places it dipped down to 15 and I wasn't too prepared for that. Our original plan was to go to Gold Creek Pond but weren't so sure of that, so we decided to see how Franklin Falls looked. The road there was blocked so we obviously didn't see it. We ended up going all the way back into the Alpental area and took a few photos before deciding to head over to the Gold Creek Pond area. And were we in for a treat!

There were literally maybe 4 other people there, but there were around 15-20 cars parked. So I wasn't quite sure where all those people went, but I wasn't really complaining. Because of the snow, the parking lot and most of the road is closed so you'll have to park right outside the entrance and make a short walk in. But it was so worth it.

The lighting was INSANE. MIND BOGGLING! Was I in Narnia? Not sure, but we sure did make a lot more references while we were scampering about snapping photos.

Most of the lake/pond was frozen over so walking on it was pretty cool, but we had a lot more fun running across to the other side and trying to break small little outcroppings of ice, which were actually a lot thicker than we thought. After realizing that some of the ice would be virtually invisible once submerged, we stacked them up until it looked as if we were standing on water (whattttttt). Then I had to grow up a little bit and we continued on.

The light just kept getting better and better and we kept snapping away.

So stoked that I scheduled Friday's off, can't wait for many more adventures!
