Description

Added by Josiah Roe

One of the steepest slot canyons in the area with hoodoos, corkscrews, multi-colored sandstone and stunning rock formations all without the crowds of the more well-known and popular Antelope Canyons.

Cathedral Canyon is located just south of Page, Arizona and west of Coppermine Road and is entirely on Navajo Land, so access is possible only by permission from a local or with a permit from one of the licensed tour companies, of which Chief Tsosi is currently the only one permitted to give permits.

The Canyon itself is accessible by numerous 4WD and high-clearance 2WD roads off Coppermine Road or 89 south of Page. Eventually the access road reaches an obvious dead at 36°50'27.5"N 111°27'16.9"W  Typically tours will park here and the hike into the canyon begins, proceeding roughly .5 miles until the Cathedral itself is reached.

As with all slot canyons, be sure to check the weather and be aware of any flash flood possibility. Your tour guide should be aware of this but it can never hurt to check yourself.

Hike Cathedral Canyon Reviews

The slot canyons are simply amazing and definitely worth a visit. As you will be going there in escort from a local tour company it is also generally safe and easy. If you are into photography, I think it is really worthy to check on the time of the visit to the canyon, as the sun light can make the experience and imagery inside the narrow walls stunning.
