Hike to the tallest lookout in Chiricahua National Monument. During the Summer, lightning strikes are still monitored from the CCC constructed lookout hut at the summit.
This short hike is spectacular at sunset. Park in the parking just beyond Echo Canyon right off of the park's scenic eight mile drive. Follow the well marked trail along the edge of Sugarloaf Mountain for beautiful views of the surrounding rock formations and valley below. At the top you will reach a CCC constructed hut that is still being used in the Summer months to monitor lightning strikes. Trail map here. The summit of Sugarloaf Mountain is the tallest point in the park at 7,310'.
