Description

This awe-inspiring location provides views of Sedona’s red rock vistas and will leave you speechless.

The hike is an easy one, flat and not too long.  In the spring you'll see lots of flowers. Note, the popularity of this Sedona cave has grown in the past year, so you will most likely encounter other hikers and mountain bikers.

You start from the Long Canyon Trailhead, and I recommend going early in the morning, as the trailhead parking fills quickly.

A half mile in, you’ll reach a fork in the trail.  You’ll take the left route (not the main trail, you’ll see foot traffic leading off trail), which leads you up to the base of a mountain (see photo).  You’ll see the depression in the wall, which as you climb, forms the cave.  Be careful on this section of the climb, as it tends to have lots of loose rocks.  Also make sure you’re wearing appropriate hiking shoes – the grippier the better.  The rock face of the cave can be quite steep, and grippy boots help a ton (you really don’t want to fall…).

Important Note: This location is technically off the main trail, so please make sure to practice Leave No Trace principals.  Do not depart and “find your own route,” and pack out all trash.  This is a truly magical location, please keep it that way.

Hike to the Birthing Cave Reviews

The hike was awesome. We went in may and it’s a relatively easy hike until the end. Getting up to the cave is very steep and the cave itself is smooth. Recommend going in the morning, it gets hot 🥵

Nice little hike. Easy to access & super flat. Great views
