About this place

Added by Nick Garcia

On one of the highest peaks in Arkansas's State Park system, you can take in beautiful views of sunrise and sunset from the Rim Trail.

The official trailhead for the Rim Trail can be found on the north side of Country Rd 92, but it seems to be much easier to start the hike right behind the visitors center. There is more parking spaces and you can purchase any last minute items you may have forgotten before you start. To find the official trailhead however, you will pass the Visitors Center on your right from Country Rd. 155 and take the next left which is Country Rd. 92. Follow the road until you see the trailhead sign on your right.

The 3.2 mile Rim Trail follows along the outer rim of Mount Nebo. The trail is mostly along a dirt path, but has multiple elevation changes using natural stone steps. There are beautiful rock bluffs along the trail where you can rest and take in the beautiful views of the Arkansas River Valley. On the north side of the trail you can view Lake Dardanelle and the Arkansas River. The only downer of the views on north side is eye sore that is Arkansas Nuclear One, a large water reactor nuclear power plant. If you can get passed seeing that, the views of the lake are great. The south side views of the forest are fantastic, especially if you visit in the fall. The vibrant colors are truly a site to see. On opposite sides of the trail you will find Sunrise Point and Sunset Point, which, as they are appropriately named, you will be able to view the sunrise and sunset, respectively. Each end has viewing benches to enjoy the views and surroundings.
