Hike Tasman National Park to Fortescue Bay via Tasman Trail

Getting to Eaglehawk Neck by bus from Hobart is easy, with a stop at the intersection of Old Jetty Road and Arthur Hwy. 

From that intersection starts an amazing trek down the coast of Tasman National Park. There are camping sites at Fortescue Bay and dispersed camping north of the Tessellated Pavement (just a few minutes walk from the bus stop). We made our trek an out and back trip, from the bus stop, to Fortescue Bay, and back. That made our day a full 21 miles, but it can easily be split into more days with shorter stints.

Starting in Pirates Bay, right in front of you at the bus stop, you can check out the Tessellated Pavement that is there. It's geological history is impressive, but there are much more interesting things farther into the walk, so remember that with your timing. 

From Eaglehawk Neck to Fortescue Bay, there are seemingly endless sites - the Blowhole, Tasman's Arch, Devil's Kitchen, and Waterfall Bay name a few. 

The trail is well maintained and well marked. Be sure to pay attention to gaps in the trees to look out into magnificent bays and crashing waves below. While a long trail, the hiking is all very conservative and safe. 

Be sure to bring enough food and water for your entire journey, as there are not any stores/markets at the bus stop where you get off unless you go into one of the fancy restaurants or hotels. We came loaded with water and food from Hobart and every ounce of it was necessary. 

We were visiting in January - peak of Summer - and only saw a handful of people in our long day on trail. The sites are stunning and the venture is well worth it.
