Escape from the business of city life and take a stroll or run through Melbourne's own "Central Park" - the Royal Botanic Garden.

At the Royal Botanical Garden, you will encounter plants from all over the world, a large water front visited by swans, and inviting meadows that overlook the city skyline. Right after, visit the Shrine of Remembrance next door, where you can catch a beautiful view of the city center. The best view can be caught at sunrise or sunset.

The Garden is located right across the Yarra River that runs through the Melbourne CBD (e.g. city center). It is tucked within miles of running trails and park grounds. The park has several entrances and is very well marked and maintained, so pay attention to the road signs & maps you see along the way and you won't get lost!

There are many options to get there. The park is typically open from 7am (~sunrise) to sundown. There is a city visitor shuttle, which runs a circuit around Melbourne every 30 minutes. For $5, you can hop on and off at any of the 15 stops. The stop for the Garden is "Melbourne Gardens/Shrine of Remembrance." There are also many parking options if you go by car, or you can head off on a bike or by foot. There are a number of notable landmarks within the garden, including the Ornamental Lake, which is a beautiful lake lined by plants. It features a lot of picnic areas, a bathroom, the garden shop and cafe. This is truly an oasis in Melbourne. You can also visit Princes Lawn, a grass field by the lake where you can sit on a bench and view the city skyline. Or, check out Gullfoyle's Volcano, which houses desert/volcanic terrain plants, but even better, a great view of the city! This is likely one of the highest points within the park.

To visit the Shrine of Remembrance afterwards, exit via Gate O, next to the Visitor Center and Observatory.
