A beautiful hike about an hours drive from Melbourne that meanders through the park, summiting mountains over 1000m with lakes and forests to explore along the way. A great place to explore for the day!

The pin that has been dropped is across from the Mt Macedon Hotel, where there are many free public parking areas on the main road. If you park here (on the left side of the road coming in), you can easily circuit the walking track.

The walking track can be circuited either way, but I walked the track starting on Anzac Road and finishing the summit of Mt Macedon. Please note that the track crosses with several other tracks and roads, but there are lots of markers indicating "MRWT," so it's easy to find your way.

From the car, walk up Mt Macedon Road, crossing the street and turning right on Anzac Road. Turn left at the fork in the road, looking for the start of the walking track 1km up from the car. The track here indicates the summit of Mount Towrong. Once the trail starts getting rocky, turn around to see some stunning views of Mt Macedon from across the ranges.

Continue along the track for some time until you reach a fork in the road. Follow your way along the "Zig Zag Track" which will take you to Sanitorium Lake, passing the picnic area. If you wish, take a short walk around the lake before heading back to the trail, which appears to your left on the trail. Some of the signs say that the koalas sometimes hang out in the eucalyptus around the lake if you're lucky!

From the lake, continue along the trail, looking for the sign to "Camel's Hump," an out and back from the trail. Camel's Hump offers spectacular views of the areas surrounding the park and is the highest point in the area.

Continue once you're back on the track, walking through a few picnic areas. After a few km, keep a look out to your right for a great area to take in some more views at the Western Lookout.

Continue from here through the War Memorial, a more popular area of the park. Take a walk around in the gardens here and enjoy the top of Mt Macedon and the views from below from the memorial near the end of the track.

The walking track continues past the start of the memorial but before the planted flowers to the right of the paved walkway, heading down into the woods. The trail descends quickly. There is a fork in the trail around 1km into this section. Head right towards Macedon (rather than Alton Road/Clyde Track, which will take you a few km from where you want to go!), which descends down a few more switchbacks, until you reach Douglas Road. Turn left here, walking until you reach Mt Macedon Road, turning right. Your car should be to your right.
