Fun night hike to the Mount Warning Summit to see the first sunrise in all of Australia. This is a great workout as it is a long and strenuous hike.

Standing at 3,793 feet tall, Mount Warning in New South Wales, Australia is the first peak to see the sunrise in all of Australia every morning. Though you can hike the mountain at any time of the day, most people arrive in the middle of the night in order to hike it in time for the sunrise.

The mountain is located in between Gold Coast and Byron Bay, 10 minutes from Murwillumbah and just 4 kms the village of Uki, at 153 Mt Warning Rd. Mt Warning NSW 2484. There is a parking lot and bathrooms at the bottom of the mountain, and a couple small restaurants close by.

The hike is about an hour an a half up, but allow lots of time if you are going for the sunrise. It is quite strenuous and takes a good amount of physical endurance, but definitely doable. There are lookout points along the way for good photo opportunities, and the summit has 360 degree views of the mountains below. Allow another hour and a half to descend, as it is very steep and slippery in some spots.

About 4.5km. Not too technical but the last few hundred metres can be physically demanding.
