Capturing sunrise light bathing the landscape as you wander through picturesque coastal dunes to an iconic rock formation off one of Australia's epic coastlines.

Victoria's Mornington Peninsula is a stunning example of one of Australia's many rugged coastlines, dotted with rock formations, pristine sand beaches & epic waves.  Lizard Head Rock is a unique formation rising out of the ocean which is especially beautiful at sunrise.

The "hike" is really just a wander from the carpark (Number 16 Beach Carpark) through gorgeous dunes down to the beach - this is a section of the longer Mornington Peninsula Walk which traverses some of the most beautiful and spectacular scenery of the region.

The trail is sandy but well marked as it cuts through the coastal vegetation down to the beach which can be accessed via a number of wooden stairs.

Once you get to the beach you really cant miss the unique Lizard Head Rock formation jutting out of the sea, and it unmistakably resembles its namesake when viewing its profile.

Many perspectives can be found here for capturing the scenery including the rock as part of the landscape or simple compositions closer to the formation.

The beaches here are wonderfully pristine and with trails extending in both directions allow yourself some time to explore this gorgeous and serene part of Victoria.
