Coast to Crest Trail at the San Dieguito Lagoon is an out-and-back trail that begins at its western end on Jimmy Durante Boulevard, where it links up with the River Path Del Mar. Heading east, the trail extends a short distance to the Birdwing Open Air Classroom and passes by the Surf Sports Park, previously known as the San Diego Polo Fields.

Heading west the trail takes you along the banks of the San Dieguito Lagoon River, where you can fish by hook and line for spotted sand bass, California corbina, and over 20 other species of adult and juvenile fish. Birdwatching is also very popular here - there are more than 100 resident and migrating species in the area!

Ultimately, the trail is planned to connect all the way to the Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve near Julian, CA. Free parking is available next to the Ranger Station, with additional street parking on San Andres Drive.
