If you’re looking for a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon while in San Francisco, make sure to visit Ghirardelli Square!

There are all sorts of delicious food options, amazing little shops and the people watching is exceptional. I highly recommend getting an ice-cream sundae and sitting outside in the sunshine. Makes for a perfect day! And if you want to wander a bit, this is also a great spot to get some steps in :)

We split one of those mega sugary chocolate ice cream things after taking a walk around the square. I love chocolate, not as big a fan of overly sweet things though.

If you have a small amount of free time in between your other SF stops check this place out. But, I would not make it a priority if you are pressed for time. Still fun to see, but there's cooler stuff close by (including Fisherman's Wharf and Land's End Hike).

Take an early morning swim and watch the sunrise over the east bay or catch an afternoon swim on a sunny SF day. A full lap around the buoys (out-and-back) is about 1/3 mile and the perimeter of the park is 1 mile. Bring your dog for a swim too! This tucked away neighborhood gem is less than a square block in size, but offers some of the best views of San Francisco. Run the Coit Tower Stairs

There are 2 sets of stairs for Coit Tower on Sansome St. The first set is at Greenwich and the second is at Filbert. The Filbert steps are a little deeper per step and are mostly wood and concrete. The Greenwich steps are a little tougher because of the shallower, brick stairs as you get toward the top. Either set is a great workout if you're looking to get your fitness on.

Lyon Street Steps

Rumor has it there are almost 300 stairs from top to bottom. This is a great place to get some exercise in if you're up for running or walking up the stairs. Do a few laps (roundtrip) and you'll be pretty happy with your workout. If you're really looking to get after it, throw in a few pushups and sit-ups at the top. Bike the Golden Gate to Sausalito

Riding your bike across the Golden Gate Bridge to Sausalito, and then enjoying some drinks on the back deck at Sam's, is a great way to spend a nice day. The views along the way are simply breathtaking. After your ride and a day of fun in Sausalito, you can return to San Francisco by ferry. It's about 8 miles from Crissy Field to Sam's. The trip usually takes 3 to 4 hours.
