Rock Climb the Candy Store

Lone Pine, California

Description

Added by Josiah Roe

Excellent beginner to advanced climbing in the shadow of Mount Whitney and away from the occasional crowds found on other routes in the Alabama Hills area.

The Candy Store is a group of boulders and small spires with around 30 climbing routes ranging from 5.6 to 5.11. The majority are trad routes with a significant portion toprope and a couple of sport.

The major features/boulders are:

  • First Boulder
  • The Gumdrop
  • Lollipop Boulder
  • Rock Candy Tower
  • Second Boulder
  • Tootsie Pop

There are several campsites directly at the base of several of the routes and in the areas surrounding each feature. To get there take the Whitney Portal Road from Lone Pine and go left on Horseshoe Meadow Road about a quarter mile up the hill past the Earthday and Munge domes. Take a left down the dirt road and The Candy Store will be immediately on your left before the white gate in the distance.

For detailed route information checkout A Rockclimbers Guide to the Alabama Hills.

Dispersed camping is allowed in the Alabama Hills Recreation Area for up to 14 days.

There are no facilities so pack out what you pack in. The town of Lone Pine is less than 10 minutes away.

For more information read the Alabama Hills Map & Guide.
