Start from the Buntzen Lake parking lot and follow the Buntzen Lake Trail along the base of the mountains, heading north to Swan Falls Trailhead. Buntzen Lake Trail parallels the Powerhouse Road, so you can take either to get to the trailhead. After roughly 45 minutes, Buntzen Lake Trail ends (past the North Beach) and you connect with the Powerhouse Road regardless.

A little ways down, the Swan Falls trailhead can be seen on the right. After passing beneath the power lines, the trail will begin ascending. It is a fairly steep trail, and is well marked, taking about 3-4 hours to reach the top. Swan Falls can be seen to your right approximately 30 minutes into the hike – you can stop here to swim in the potholes and have a snack (highly recommended, this is a beautiful area).

Upon reaching the top, turn right at the Swan Falls Junction and follow the sign that reads "Mount Beautiful" or "Eagle Peak" (the mountain has two names). You will know you're at the top when the scenery takes your breath away. You can go down the same way you climbed up, but there are other options for roundtrip hikes, including the Halvor Lunden Trail on the Dilly Dally loop.

Backpack Mount Beautiful via Swan Falls Reviews

I had the absolute best time on this trip. We watched the sunset and sunrise from our campsite, and had an amazing view of the Metro Vancouver area at night. As much as it wasn't the sort of backcountry experience that I usually go for, this was a special adventure in the sense that you felt so close, yet so far, from civilization.
