An 8.3km hike with four lakes, great views and plenty of fishing.
Park in the Lantern Creek Recreation Area across the street from the trailhead. Highway #40 is closed at the Upper Lakes and Highwood House Junction from Dec 1st to June 14th for wildlife preservation, so you will have to plan your trip here accordingly.
Once you cross the street you will see the well marked trailhead next to Lantern creek for Pickle Jar Lakes. The trail starts off slowly ascending through the forest. At 3km the trail turns steep and is the hardest ascent of the trail. Continue on the trail until you reach a fork, take the left trail as the right goes above the lakes on Lineham ridge. The first Pickle Jar Lake comes into view shortly after, and has the best fishing. You need an Alberta fishing license to fish here, but you can see plenty of fish swimming around from the shore.
From the first lake, if you continue on the trail you will then see the second, third, and fourth lakes. Only the first and third lakes have fishing, but you can camp anywhere along the trail leading to the rest of the lakes. Pickle Jar Lakes is a popular fly fishing spot with lots of unofficial camp grounds.
