The short hike to Lower Lake is very scenic and passes beautiful waterfalls.
Lower Lake is a gorgeous alpine lake located on the Triple Peak Trail. The route to the lake is very steep and scrambling is involved, but is well worth the effort. When you come to the rise above the final ridge, the stunning Triple Peak and Lower Lake come into view.
The hike starts down a very steep, root-filled forest trail and opens up to the smooth flowing Marion Creek. After crossing the creek, the trail leads uphill and elevation gain occurs rapidly. This section of trail is very muddy and has many roots. After ascending through the forest you will come to a section of the waterfall that feeds from Lower Lake.
The rest of the trail is void of tree cover so make sure you have plenty of water and proper sun protection. The trail is marked by cairns and crisscrosses the waterfall until the lake is reached. There are sections of the approach that require some moderate scrambling, and there is a rope in place to allow for an easier ascent. As you travel beside the cascading water, take a moment to look behind you at the gorgeous views of 5040 Peak and the valley below.
Approximately three-quarters of the way up the trail, the prominent northern face of Triple Peak comes into view, jutting out from its surroundings. When reaching the Lower Lake you can enjoy a wonderful refreshing dip while taking in the scenery that you worked so hard for.
Getting there: The hike begins at the Triple Peak Trailhead, located approximately 46 km (29 mi) west of Port Alberni. The route to this magical spot includes a drive down a long, bumpy dirt road, so a high clearance vehicle is highly recommended.

Camp at Lower Lake Reviews
I'm keen on hiking to the lake. Can you explain a little more about the tenting possibilities up there? Was there any flat-ish ground or just the curved rock area your picture shows? Did you bear hang? Thanks
