Camp at Hole-in-the-Wall Campground
Grand Manan, New Brunswick
Description
Added by Do Gaudet
Pitch your tent on the edge of a cliff and watch for whales in the comfort of your sleeping bag in Hole-in-the-Wall Campground.
The island of Grand Manan has a lot to offer to the outdoor enthousiast. While you might want to spend your day discovering, hiking or kayaking, spending your evenings and nights on the edge of these cliffs is a fantastic opportunity to experience the singularity of the island.
The Hole-in-the-Wall Park and Campground should let you enjoy the magnificent view of the Bay of Fundy in a backcountry-ish style. The trees and cliffs gives you privacy but you can drive almost up to your tent. The park offers many cliff-edge sites where you literally camp just above the feeding route of the whales, harbour porpoise and seals. If you look carefully, you will probably see many of those while enjoying your morning cup of coffee and you will ear them at night. All the sites have a picnic table and a fire pit, plus you can buy fire wood at the reception of the park. The Hole-in-the-Wall Parc and Campground is located exactly one kilometre from the ferry terminal in North Head, Grand Manan.
From your tent, you might see the Swallowtail Lighthouse, the sun rise on the water every morning and, as there is no artificial light around, the shooting stars above your head. On foggy days and night, the foghorn blows every 11 seconds; don't forget your earplugs.
With your camping pass, you will have access of the hiking trails in the park that are part of the Grand Manan hiking circuit. Hike (or drive) up to the real Hole-in-the-Wall rock formation at the far end of the park. Traveling with kids? There is also a treasure hunt in the parc. Ask about it when you register.
Finally, don't forget to make a reservation online before you get to Grand Manan because the parc is very busy in the summer. You can't reserve a specific spot, but ask for a cliff-edge site in your message.
