Camp at Seaview Game Farm and Paddle the Strait of Georgia

Black Creek, British Columbia

Description

Added by DJ Williams

Seaview Game Farm is the perfect base camp for day-trip kayaking the Strait of Georgia between Courtenay and Campbell River British Columbia on Vancouver Island.  Easy paddle access to excellent beaches and one of the best spots to chill and watch a sunset.

Seaview Game Farm, located on Vancouver Island between Courtenay and Campbell River is a prime jumping off point to paddle the Strait of Georgia and check out some of the best beaches the coast has to offer.  Located right on the beachfront, Seaview offers camping at RV sites but, for the best experience and a little "glamping", opt for the Oceanfront Yurt.

The views from the beach are amazing and when the tide rolls out, the tide pools are full of diverse ocean wildlife, including multi-colored starfish and crabs.  You won't want to leave but you should, at least for the day.  From Seaview, you can paddle to three of the best beaches on the Strait of Georgia.  Williams Beach, great for seeing harbor seals, is a short paddle south.  Miracle Beach is a short paddle north and the white sands and skim boarding of Saratoga Beach are just a few more paddle strokes north.

We stayed in the yurt in mid-July and would have stayed forever.  We kayaked to the beaches, scanned for Orcas and cruise ships, explored the tide pools, and relaxed for 4 days at Seaview.  It was a unique, wonderful adventure, one you don't want to miss.

You will want to shop for food in nearby Courtenay or Campbell River, both of which have large supermarkets.  The kitchen in the yurt is full service and there is a propane barbecue to make your meals right there. Seaview also sells excellent fresh produce and venison harvested from the farm. There are numerous places nearby to purchase firewood for a sunset campfire.

As far as kayaking, the normal gear (pfd, bilge pump, etc.) can all be rented at Comox Valley Kayaks in nearby Courtenay. There are no fees to visit the beaches since you will be kayaking there and "parking" on the beach. Bring plenty of water on your paddle adventures as well as your best camera.  It is absolutely beautiful

If you are a fisherman, Campbell River (long known as "The Salmon Capital of the World") should not be missed.  Visit River Sportsman for licenses, gear, and tips from some of the nicest, most knowledgeable people around.  The Campbell River Museum and Fisherman's Wharf are also must see.
