Dig for a Clam Dinner in PEI

Grab your shovel and head to one of the south sandy beaches in PEI to dig for your dinner. Specifically, head to the sand bar near Maximeville, Pinette, or Tea Hill.

Digging for clams is relatively easy, just look for the small air holes in the sand at low tide. Make sure you place the shovel a few inches away from the hole and dig straight down to lift the sand out, being careful not to hit the clam. Once the sand is lifted, you should be able to find your clam, especially if it is spitting water at you while trying to retreat. Once you've filled your bucket with enough clams, take the clams to the water and rinse out the clams before letting them soak in water, to have less sand in the shells.

Note that regulations state you can't take more than 200, and they have to be mature clams that are more than 2 inches. Also, make sure you don't wear white, as the red, clay-like sand stains like you wouldn't believe. Once you feel the clams are soaked and sand-free enough, put them in a pot with water, butter and garlic, and boil to perfection.
