About this place

Added by Rachel B

Easy bike ride through PEI's most spectacular scenery. Beautiful beaches. Dramatic coastlines. Car-free bike lanes. 17km out-and-back ride.

Start at one of the Cavendish Destination Centre car parks, or in town at Cavendish from one of the many bike rental offices. Head north and west along the Gulf Shore Way West (Route 13). In less than 1km (0.6 mi) you will reach the separate multi-use shoreline route along the Gulf of St Lawrence.

Follow the light rolling hills east for 8.5km (5.2 mi) to North Rustico Beach before turning around and returning on the same route westward. Stop at many viewpoints, and descend to private coves and beaches below the red sandstone cliffs.

Once back at the Oceanview Lookout parking lot, follow the dirt path west for another 1km (0.6 mi) to reach the Dunelands Trail, which has a long boardwalk over the Lake of Shining Waters.

Watch for birds, and bring a lock so you can ditch the bike and climb over the sand dunes to Cavendish Beach. The long sandy beach stretches another 8km (5 mi) but is only accessible by foot.

Pro-tip: July and August can be crazy with tourists, so aim to visit this park in June or September when the weather is nice but the tourists aren't overtaking the park.

Misleading
This is less of a scenic trail, and more of a path beside a main road. May be of relevance to some - all ...
