Tuna Fish Off of Tofino

Tofino, British Columbia

Description

Added by Jeremy Koreski

Enjoy amazing tuna fishing and fresh fish for dinner. The full day of scenery and photo opportunities isn't too bad either.

Warm water tuna are among the fastest swimming game fish in the North Pacific Ocean. When weather and warm water temperatures cooperate off the coast of Tofino, Vancouver Island in British Columbia, you can have a day you'll never forget.

Tuna can be ravenous feeders when the bite is on, making for some very intense battles and some serious pull. They can range in size from 15-40 pounds in weight, and can take the lure, battling rods, and fisherman for half an hour to forty-five minutes.

Blue water fishing also makes for an unbelievable wildlife experience – you might take a swim with white-sided dolphins, for one. If you have an underwater camera that's great, but definitely not needed. A good SLR will be fine, although unfortunately you can't rent water housing in Tofino.

The area is extremely weather dependent, so make sure you check ahead of time. Late July and August are good times to go.

If you don't have your own boat or a friend with a boat, hire a guide – Chris Grice is the best.
