This lesser-known Jasper National Park hike (6km roundtrip) will take you through a narrow canyon complete with eight waterfalls.
Hiking up Beauty Creek to Stanley Falls is a must do summer activity for all those who love waterfalls. In the winter, this canyon gets transformed into a magical winter wonderland full of interesting ice formations. The creek and falls freeze over, but open holes of flowing water are easily found. Within the short 6km hike, you will be able to view 8 waterfalls in a narrow canyon.
Getting to the trailhead can be tricky, as there is no parking lot or road signs indicating the location of the trailhead. Driving from the Town of Jasper, follow the Icefields Parkway south of the town for about 86 km. The gate can be difficult to find, so look for two large culverts that go under the highway. From these water culverts, the Stanley Falls trailhead is about 2 km south of the Beauty Creek Hostel. The trail runs across the top of a berm from the roadside pullout then dips through the trees before connecting with the old highway. Turn right and follow this road to the old bridge site over Beauty Creek at 800 metres. Turn left and follow the curving canyon for another 800 meters.
In the winter, you can walk on portions of the creek bed (carefully) to get unique angles of waterfalls and of the canyon walls.
