Pristine glacial lakes. Tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. Rope Bridges. Passing through the Valley of a Thousand Falls. Plus, all down hill? Count me in!

If you do not have the time (or energy) to backpack into Berg Lake and camp overnight, one solution is to fly into Berg Lake via Robson Helimagic's chopper and hike out. Going with this heli-hiking route allows you to experience this iconic trail without the hassle of camping and getting proper permits. If you are interested in the backpacking and camping experience, check out Morgan Lee Alain's post here

The helicopter will drop you off near the Robson Pass Campground, which is immediately adjacent the border between Alberta and British Columbia (Jasper National Park and Mt. Robson Provincial Park). From here, you get to hike downhill 2,610' over the course of 14.3 miles. You will get to hike along the Robson River, surrounded by Hargreaves, Robson, Berg, and Mist Glaciers initially. As you get farther down the trail, you will pass by the monstrous Emperor Falls (I have witnessed backpackers taking a "shower" in the mist of Emperor Falls). Continuing on, you will pass through a variety of waterfalls and lakes as you make your way through the Valley of a Thousand Falls. Kinney Lake and the neighboring campground will be your last major point of interest along your hike out to the trailhead. Mount Robson towers over you throughout the hike; fitting considering it is the tallest mountain in the Canadian Rockies at 12,972'.

Heli-Hike the Berg Lake Trail Reviews

This trail was phenomenal! The helicopter ride started things off perfectly for us, we were able to see everything from a birds eye. You are dropped off at Robson Pass, but we took the short detour to Mum Basin to get a different view of Berg Lake. The trail was in excellent condition, and there was something to see around every corner. Permits are hard to come by if you plan on camping, but I'd recommend taking your time out here. If you are taking the helicopter ride you can make this a day full day hike, we stopped and camped at Kinney Lake just so we could really take our time around the trail. One of the best parts is the trail wasn't overly crowded, Mt Robson is just west of Jasper and it didn't have any crowds in comparison to Banff, Yoho, or Jasper. Don't skip out on this if you are in the area.
