Approximately one hour, on foot, on this quad trail will bring you to several rock outcroppings. Whether you stop for a leisurely lunch, put on some climbing shoes for some bouldering or just explore the nooks and crannies, the walk or quad trip is well worth it!
This site is easily accessible on pavement most of the way and well maintained oil field roads for the last few kilometers and cell service is great! Google will provide 2 routes to approach these rocks from the north or the south. It is possible to make a large loop, or stage a vehicle part of the way on one of the gravel roads.
Access Township Road 784 from Highway 49 and head East, then turn right onto Range Road 134. Continue for 6 km until the road turns left and becomes an oilfield road. Continue on this route staying left at the 2 major "y"s in the road. When the drivable road stops at a cutline, you have found your trailhead.
Our trip was in November and choosing to leave the snowshoes in the truck. The quad trail can hide many surprises in the snow covered low spots. Walk with caution and bring some extra socks and plastic bags just in case.
The forested path is easy to follow and after approx. 3 km, a slightly smaller path departs to the left. 2 minutes later, you will arrive at the rim rocks. The rocks are mostly conglomerate and seem quite solid. There are ample opportunities to slide between some of the cracks and explore below the rim.
There is some great drone footage of the area in summer found drone view.
There is a fire pit, a table and a few stumps and logs to use while having lunch and taking in the surroundings.
