This 725 metre summit is a manageable day hike that starts just off pavement but whisks the hikers through creeks, canals, bridges, great views and grand summit.
This is a great day hike with ever changing terrain. Details to find the trailhead can be found at the following link. http://www.grandecache.ca/p/local-maps
The trail starts at a trail riding staging area and briefly follows a canal, before crossing a safe, but partially submerged bridge. Shortly after taking a left at a 'Y' in the path, the trail ascends fairly steeply up a rocky ridge. This continues for most of the trip with a brief rest in a forested area with a small creek. Around 4 km in, the trees thin out and give way to more exposed rock. The summit has great views of surrounding peaks, lakes and the town of Grande Cache.
Alpine hiking requires preparation to accommodate the potential changes in weather. Bring layers that include some insulation and water resistance. This hike will take 4 - 7 hours in duration and will require water and food for that duration of time. Hiking poles are a big asset for the descent.
This is a great way to spend a day and an awesome summit to claim!
