The East - West Canyon is now a loop, with a new bridge that was installed in 2015. There is some gain but it's spread out over a long stretch and they offer beautiful views and several viewpoints
Park your car in the Gold Creek Parking lot ( at the end of the dirt road), and look for a yellow gate at the far end of the parking lot. This will be the East Canyon trail. The first part of the trail winds through the forest and you emerge on an old logging road. Follow this road along with the river on your left-hand side. There is the option to stop at the upper falls if you want ( info in my other post to see the Upper Falls). About 5kms into the hike you will reach the new bridge on your left-hand side. Stop in the middle to enjoy the stunning views of Gold Creek River and the snow-capped mountains around you.
Once you cross the bridge, the West Canyon trail begins. This is a more rugged trail that is all forest. The initial bit after the bridge is easy, with a steep section coming up. The trail is well marked as it makes its way through the forest and over several waterfalls. Make sure to stop at the vantage points and view Gold Creek from the lookout.
One of the bridges has been washed out about 9kms into the hike so be careful crossing that section. The trail continues until you finally reach the West Canyon parking lot. Take the time to use the outhouse if you want.
Make your way down the driveway and turn left and follow the dirt road back to the parking lot you parked in.( about 1ish km).
This loop can be done year round but it's considered backcountry and there is NO CELL RECEPTION, so always make sure you dress appropriately and tell someone where you are going as the weather can and will change fast.
