Description

Added by Dan Deublein

Adventure towards Hamilton Falls where you will escape the noise and crowds located at Emerald Lake.

Hamilton Falls trail sign is across the parking lot from Emerald Lake and points you in the direction of the trail.

The trail will start with a gentle incline which immediately places you into a lush forest as the noise of tourism begins to fade. Approximately 0.4 miles up the trail, you will reach a junction that offers a significantly longer hike to Hamilton Lake. To reach the falls, continue hiking straight as the sounds of the river begins to harmonize.

Continue along the trail as you course through the river carved canyon. At 0.81 miles, you will reach the base of the falls. At this point, the falls aren't yet clearly visible due to the bend of the canyon.

Depending upon the water level, you can scramble along the rocks of the river which will lead you to the base of the falls. You may also continue upward on the trail for a higher viewpoint.

After a much needed break from the crowds, return the way you came as you are rewarded with an easy downhill stroll.

Hike to Hamilton Falls, Yoho NP Reviews

I visited this falls in August 2012 so I can't speak to how busy it might be now. That being said, we were the only 2 there and I really enjoyed the location; nothing epic but a very serene and photogenic spot.
