This is a super beautiful hike through Canadian shield country that leads to a kick-ass look out over Falcon Lake.
The Top-of-the-World Trail is probably one of the best trails in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. It's a short, easy little loop through amazing jack pine forests and over granite bedrock. Lots of rocks and roots to make the hike interesting. Half-way through the loop you end up at the Top-of-the-World look-out. It. Is. Awesome. Super cool geology there along the cliff with giant boulders skewed about, I think they were probably broken apart and spread by glacial action thousands of years ago. A wicked look out over Falcon Lake too. I know for a fact there have been many people who have either gotten engaged, had their first kiss, or even gotten married at this very spot.
This trail is also part of the Five of Diamonds mountain bike route which is a super popular and technical mountain bike ride. Parking is located at the ski chalet parking lot of the Falcon Ridge Ski Slopes. Up the hill at the Welcome Centre of the local resort (Falcon Trails Resort) they have staff who can help you to get on your way. You will also need to make sure you have a Provincial Park Pass, they can be purchased at various vendors in the town-site of Falcon Lake or the Park office. The Welcome Centre of Falcon Trails Resort would be your closest place to pick one up. There are 1-day, 3-day, and annual passes available for purchase.
The pictures are of my partner Ryan, our dog Heidi and I at the look-out. Taken by the super talented Ben Jaworskyj (@jaworskyj) from Germany. Thanks Ben!
