A quick hike from Whistler to a very unique train wreck in the woods. Passes over a newly constructed suspension bridge.
The hike to the train wreck in Whistler changed significantly on September 1st, 2016. The town of whistler installed a suspension bridge over the Cheakamus river, allowing hikers to access the site from the whistler athletes centre, down a well maintained path.
There are two options to get to the train wreck, one is to walk down the multi-purpose "Trash" trail, which follows the river bank all the way to the suspension bridge. This direction is slightly more of an adventure, but is a more interesting walk.
The other option is to walk down the gravel path from the parking area, through the woods with green moss which leads you directly to the suspension bridge - You can also hike both of these trails, making it a loop.
Once you get to the suspension bridge, you walk up the boardwalk and arrive at the train wreck. There are cars to both the left and the right, and I would highly recommend checking them all out! Be careful, as they can get wet and slippery, and there is a lot of exposed metal.

The Train Wreck wasn’t not impressive at all for me, but the hike around is great! Super easy and super short! You can see some beautiful places around the HI hostel just after a long day of doing some activities! Highly recommend for someone who has still some energy to walk around Whistler.

fun little place. checked it out in the winter and it was cool, but i would much rather have been skiing.

We decided to stop by and check on the train wreck on a whim, after we stayed overnight near Parkhurst Ghost Town. It's pretty amazing to think that the trains derailed with so much force as the wreckage was pretty far away from the tracks. Last time I was there was before the bridge was put in. I'd like to check it out again when there's snow. I think it would make for a way cooler experience.
