Description

Added by Emily Masse

This is an easy day hike in the Coquihalla Summit Regional Area with great 360 degree views from the top.

The granite slab of Yak Peak is easily identified by those passing by on the Coquihalla Highway. What most don't know is there is a hiking trail and climbing opportunities, both offering amazing 360 degree views of the Zopkios range and beyond.

This hike starts at the Zopkios rest area (across the highway from Needle Peak). After bumbling along the highway, counting lamp posts to find the trail (5 from the barrier to be exact) you are greeted with a flagged cairn down, away from the highway. The first 45 minutes get your heart rate pumping, but in a hot minute you'll forget your pains as you begin hiking along the granite slab and through boulder fields.

From here you can catch a glimpse of the snow field and meadow above. It's a refreshing view! This hike offers amazing panoramic views from the sub summit- at the meadow, or 360 degree views from the summit. Wherever you choose to stop your efforts are greatly rewarded.
