Description

This easy, but scenic mini-adventure in Burns Bog Delta Nature reserve is only a short drive from Vancouver.

As you begin your journey into Burns Bog Delta Nature Reserve from the parking lot and small trail coming off of Westview Drive, notice the gravel trail ahead of you and across the train tracks that will take you into the bog itself and take a left. After spending a few minutes on the straight trail running along the train tracks, the gravel turns to dirt as you enter the reserve. On your right side, the stream that runs through the bog is flowing ever so gently as you continue your way on the easy trail, which had now become primarily made of sand.

About 15 minutes along the trail, you come to a fork, which gives you two options to continue your adventure. Turn left for a more scenic walk and follow the trail for a few metres before it turns into wooden boardwalk. The path takes into the bog, with the moist soil surrounding you on both sides. In the winter, this path is usually covered with water in some places, but as the seasons shift, the water dries up and the path becomes walkable.

Continue along the boardwalk as it meanders through the wet terrain until you appear out from the cover of the trees and suddenly find yourself in the middle of an area containing a pond and long grass. The path continues through the sun-lit area until you again go back into the tree cover for a short distance. A few minutes later, you are back on the main gravel trail, which takes you back to the trail leading to Westview Drive, your starting location.
