Explore Kittil Falls

Fraser-Fort George F, British Columbia

Description

Added by Katt Greenwell

A short walk from a backcountry campsite leads to a beautiful waterfall with a surprise second pool and falls if you climb up!

Driving Directions:

From Prince George there are a few ways to enter this backcountry area. I prefer to drive east of town towards Tabor Mountain.  (Alternatively you could take the long way in from Salmon Valley.)

From Highway 16 East (before you hit the ski area) turn left on the Upper Fraser Road to Willow River.

After 15 km you will turn right at the T intersection. You will follow this road for another 46 km. At the 46 km-ish mark you will cross the Fraser River on the Upper Fraser Road Bridge.

Just past the bridge, you leave pavement and head a couple hundred meters to the intersection of Church FSR and Upper Fraser Road. There are wooden signs pointing to each of the highlights in the area. You will be turning right down the Church FSR.

After 1.2 km, turn left at the Pass Lake FSR. Follow the Pass Lake FSR for 11 km. Keep straight on the Pass Lake FSR at the intersection with the Cargill FSR. Keep left at the intersection with the Torphy FSR. Continue down Pass Lake FSR.

At approximately the 45 km mark on the Pass Lake FSR, turn right down the McGregor-Sande FSR. (In the BRMB this is the McGregor, the sign on the road are for the Sandie).

The Kittil Falls Rec Site is on the right hand side at the 9 km marker on the Sande.

This route is graded maybe once per year and I would suggest taking it slow in a smaller vehicle.

Falls:

Once you have made it to the rec site, the trail is easily found at the back of it. The walk is maybe 5 mintues.

I highly suggest following the 'goat' path up the hill to view the second falls and pool. From there, you can climb all the way up to view it from above.
