Duration: a few hours to a full-day (2hrs-6hrs). The hike is roughly 2.5km roundtrip. Awesome place to spend the day down by the river. Photographic river and waterfall.

Red Willow Falls is a waterfall on the Red Willow River near the Alberta/British Columbia border. There are no signs for directions and it’s located down several oil & gas dirt roads.

To get to the falls, from Elmworth drive west on secondary Hwy 722, then turn left on Range Road 121, then right on Township Road 700 and right again at the B.C. border. There is no sign indicating the BC border, however if you use your iPhone google maps you can track your movement using the GPS. You will then arrive at a parking area off the side of the road.

The trail starts at N55°02.632’ W119°58.874’ There is a roughly 1.2 km hike to the edge of the valley with views of the Red Willow River. To hike down to the falls, continue on the trail on the right hand side and you will arrive at a trail on your left hand-side that is outfitted with ropes tied to trees. The trail is quite steep, but is fairly short. Once at the bottom, hang a left and you will arrive at the falls. The falls are accessible most of the year, depending on water levels. Autumn is a great time to visit as the fall colors add a great addition to your photographs.

The hike was short and easy. The river and falls were very beautiful and peaceful. We stuck around the falls for an hour or so and only ran into 2 other people.
