Climb Eisenhower Tower

Improvement District No. 9, Alberta

Description

Added by Rayne Grein

This isolated pinnacle makes the perfect climbing objective!

Castle mountain is located within Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies- At the south eastern end stands Eisenhower Tower which is easily viewed from the TransCanada highway.

  • Summit Elevation- 9, 028 ft
  • Named after World War II General Dwight. D Eisenhower.
  • 5.6- 5.7 Alpine Route, Around 8 pitches
  • 10-13 hour day

Starting at Rockbound Lake trailhead follow the path upward towards the tower and Rockbound Lakes for about 2- 2.5 hours until you get to a cairn on the left hand side that starts the climbers trail and a scramble to the dragons back. There seems to be a variety of starts to ascend the dragons back- we went left and started by a cairn that goes up a good chimney.

The classic route makes an aesthetic multi pitch with moderate rock climbing, scrambling and has great exposure.
