Grillmair Chimneys Climb - Mount Yamnuska

Bighorn No. 8, Alberta

Description

Added by Rayne Grein

With more than 100 climbs on this beautiful rock face, We climbed the classic Grillmair Chimneys route. This is one of my favourite climbs to date! We started this climb after work on a Friday with perfect weather!

  • First route put up on Yamnuska by Hans Gmoser, Leo Grillmair
  • Some say this was the start of modern climbing in Canada
  • 5.6 Trad Route- 8 Pitches

This climb is very unique once you get to the last pitch- squeezing your way into a cave, once at the cave you climb through a small hole which brings you out on top of the mountain.

We climbed this route in the beginning of August- We got great weather and were awarded with a beautiful sunset during our descent.
