Description

Added by James Hueser

Snowshoe through a forest and on the edge of the Outlier's ridge and get phenomenal views of Spray Valley Provincial Park and get up close and personal with some killer rock formations.

Attempt this in a winter with some great snowfall and you might be able to get some great shots of the beautiful cornices that form on the ridge.

The trailhead is at the north end of the Sawmill Parking lot right by the outhouses. It heads past a metal gate to a maze of old logging roads. The proper way to gain the ridge is to access it from it's most southerly point. When you move past the metal gate, there will be three different paths -- continue down the middle path. When you see another trail veer off to the right, follow that! It'll take you right up the ridge and very little, if any, bushwhacking will need to be done.

If you end up missing the trail, don't worry because you can just head straight up through the trees. This. Is. Tough. It probably added an extra 2 hours onto our trip, but was also surprisingly fun. If you find yourself in this position, remember: switchbacks are your friend, no matter how small they are.

Once you come to the ridge, it's very straightforward. Just keep following the ridge until you come to the highest point.
