Less than a 30 minute drive from Castle Rock, the South Platte River enters the Rampart Range and becomes almost untouched by any development. Enjoy tubing down the calm river (seasonal) under the highly unique backdrop of Long Scraggy Peak.Located in Pike National Forest.

From the Town of Sedalia, head southwest on HWY 67 through the scenic Rampart Range until you come to a dirt road named W Pine Creek Rd. Head west on W Pine Creek Rd until it ends into Platte River Rd. Park anywhere along the road where you will not block traffic.

Drop a tube or raft and enjoy a scenic serene float down the river. Always wear a life jacket as there are a couple of small waterfalls through mini-canyons which can have fairly strong currents. Depending on the rain / snowfall, small sandy beaches can be found along the river and are perfect for older kids.

There are a numerous designated campsites along this road, however since this location is within Pike National Forest, dispersed camping is allowed. Although this area is not too far outside of Castle Rock, it is fairly remote and amenities are few and far between.
