Hike Mount Falcon

Our Mt. Falcon adventure in October was one of my favorites during this trip to the Rockies. From a little cabin just outside of Evergreen, Co we searched the web for day hikes with great views and I think this one really drew us in because of all the awesome trail guide photos. When I hike I like to see as many different styles of scenery as possible because I can never choose a favorite. I love the snow-capped mountains high above the clouds but I also love the serenity of a golden meadow with a blue sky lid. When it comes to views for me, as long as it's vast and there's a mountain in it I'm a happy lady.This afternoon was particularly windy and brisk. The sun came out and quickly tucked behind the clouds that were then pushed out by a front of beautifully moody fog. We chased the changing weather through the trails of the Jefferson County Open Space until there was barely any light left.

"Hikers have 1.7-mile Turkey Trot Trail all to themselves. The remaining 11 park miles are multi-use. The 2,000-foot elevation gain of the Castle Trail, a steep climb from the east, provides a vigorous workout and a 14er training ground.

Picnic tables, shelters and restrooms are accessible from both entry roads. Short trail forays from the west reveal the rags-to-riches-to-rags story of visionary John Brisben Walker. Remnants include stone walls of his early-1900s home and the cornerstone of a would-be summer White House for U.S. Presidents. Later the Kirchhof family built a wooden tower, situated along Tower Trail, which visitors can climb to survey wonders of the landscape that never cease to amaze.
