Less appreciated than the Barr Trail, but one of the most scenic trails to the summit of Pikes Peak.

This portion of a trek to the Pikes Peak begins about 13,000 feet.  From the parking lot walk across the road back to the Northeast side and look for the hikers trail that begins by paralleling the road. By hiking this path you will have the time to enjoy the amazing views of the mountain range and the valley below.

The air is very thin up here. The trail got its name because lightning bounces from rock to rock on impact from summer afternoon thunderstorms. It is a great idea to start this trail as early in the day as possible for this reason. There are signs to remind you of the danger in this area. It also could snow anytime at this elevation, so make sure to have layers of clothing.

The last leg of this hike goes up the steep pitch to the summit. The trail has wash outs in this section, but rock cairns have been placed so you can follow with some ease.

The views at the summit and the knowledge you hiked up when most took the tram is a great accomplishment. Some people also choose to summit via the Barr trail, but the Devil's Playground Trail makes it easier for day hikers to hike to the summit.

Once at the summit house rest and soak in the views and enjoy some food from Colorado's highest restaurant before you begin your hike back to your car.
