Mountain Bike Village Trail
Mountain Village, Colorado
Description
Added by Brock DeHaven
Distance: 3.3 miles total. Elevation gain: 64'; elevation loss: 1066'Easy downhill trail with various landscapes. Views of Mt. Wilson, highest 14er in the San Miguel Mountain Range. Manageable trail down Telluride Ski resort's backside through Aspen groves.
Take the Gondola from either Telluride or Mountain Village and get off at mid station. Walk up the path, pass the entrance to the bike park, and continue up the gravel road until you come upon signs for the Village Trail. It will start on the maintenance road but will quickly become a narrow path that slowly begins to wind itself down the upper trails of the backside of the ski resort.
After a quick half a mile down the trail, you will enter a more forested area that will serpentine itself through spruce and aspen groves, creeks, and fields of wildflowers. This section of the trail will last for 2 miles and will eventually dump you out onto Prospect Creek Drive. Once on the road, you will continue uphill for 100 yards and follow the signs for Village Trail. This section of the trail descends into a creek bottom, crossing a wetland on a boardwalk and then will continue down and connect with the Boulevard Trail, providing access to Town Hall Plaza and Mountain Village Center.
If you need to access the Gondola to get back to town, continue up the path from the road that the trail will lead you to, and you will easily spot where to go.
