Ride the highest chairlift in Colorado and hike to almost 13,000 feet to ski 2,200 feet of the deepest untracked expert terrain at Breckenridge Resort. The fresh tracks on these runs will keep you coming back for more.

Your journey to the deepest powder in Breckenridge begins at the Breckconnect Gondola. If it snowed more than half a foot or it is the weekend you will want to arrive by 8:30 am to secure parking in one of the Gondola Lots.

Ride the gondola up to Peak 8. On your way up you will pass over the Cucumber Gulch wildlife preserve. Moose sometimes like to hangout in this valley so keep your eyes open. The first stop will be at Shockhill station. Do not get off here! Your next stop is the Peak 7 base area. Stay on gondola! I know, I know, I am telling you to hike to the top of Peak 7, but trust me you want the next stop, which is the Peak 8 base area.

At the base of Peak 8, ride the Colorado SuperChair up mountain. Checkout all the people skiing groomers as you realize you are heading into a real adventure. When you get off the chair bear skiers right and take Frosty’s Freeway to the 6-Chair. Get off to right and ride down skiers left to the Imperial Express SuperChair.

This is where you adventure really begins. The Imperial Express is North America’s highest chairlift and it will take you all the way up to 12,840 feet. Most people will keep their skis on, but not you. You are popping out of your bindings and carrying your ride to the top of Peak 8 (12,998 feet). Find the gate just above the chair and start heading up.

You made it! Well, sort of. You reached the highest inbounds point on the mountain! Most people will head towards the Lake Chutes. This terrain is also great, but MOST PEOPLE go there and you want fresh tracks. On Skiers left there is another gate that leads to Peak 7 and Whales Tail. Strap your skis/board on and start heading down. Keep as far left as you can while going down the ridge and ski down to the saddle between Peak 8 and Peak 7.

This is your final push! Once you are at the saddle, unbuckle your bindings and start heading up the peak. This is Peak 7. As you start hiking again, resist the urge to start heading down. The higher you get the better it gets and the more turns you’ll squeeze in.

Once you are the top pick your line and just go for it. You have 2,200 vertical feet of perfectly untouched powder and it is all yours. Shred it!

I know that is seems like a lot for fresh tracks and powder, but this is hands down the best snow and terrain I have skied at Breckenridge. If you agree take the T-Bar up and ski down to Imperial Express to do it all over again!

Hike to Ski Peak 7 Powder in Breckenridge Reviews

If you are looking to earn some awesome pow turns. The peak 7 hike is the spot to be. It got a little windy for me forcing me to stop and hunker down for a minute or two. Once the wind subsided I put one foot in front of the other until I made it to the spot I found suitable for dropping in. The resort was pretty empty so the area was untouched. I got some well earned pow turns and then threaded my way through the pines and back onto the groomers. Highly recommended but make sure to pack a snack and water, bring a friend so you can share a memory that will last a lifetime!
