Natural dam containing gorgeous coloured glacial water. Serious up and some magical pockets of glory along the way. Just the right distance for a day hike. About 5 or 6C in the daytime on October 9th 2017.

Pretty hike. Intimidating hike. The first 6k's are cakewalk and the last 6, the antithesis. I made it 200m away from the summit and turned back because I was hiking alone and didn't like the steepness of the trail and rope laid for safety. Epic views of Pitt lake, mt. Baker, mt Robie Reid, and Mt. Judge Howay. Also the entire range up towards Indian arm and area. NOT an easy hike.. I summited black tusk in garabaldi two weeks prior and this was absolute murder in comparison. Still, a beauty and well worth it!

This hike definitely rivaled some of the best I've done. The first 7km include an 800m elevation gain up switchbacks and through thick forest. After you reach Taylor meadows, it's a open and picturesque stroll through a flat alpine meadow with flowers abounding. The last 4 or so km to the tusk are intense but slow but steady gets you there with ease. I heeded the advice of others and did not attempt to climb up the tusk - instead opting to take in the glory of the view from its base. The entire hike took me 8 hours from start to finish - this included a 20 min lunch break and 1 hour plop at the base of the tusk. Points to note - First time I'd ever waited in line for a shithouse. First time I'd run into millenials on the trail pumping hip hop. Good bear deterrent if anything.
