Leaving North Carolina

By: Demetrios Varoumas + Save to a List

After leaving Oconaluftee, (an Indian Village in Cherokee, North Carolina) I felt really humble to see in person what it was like to experience how 18th century Indians lived and learn more history of our land. Unfortunately, the white settlers brought some unfortunate events, but luckily the language, and people survived. It's important for all Americans to know our history of good and bad for it must be taught.

We want to acknowledge and thank the past, present, and future generations of all Native Nations and Indigenous Peoples whose ancestral lands we travel, explore, and play on. Always practice Leave No Trace ethics on your adventures and follow local regulations. Please explore responsibly!

Do you love the outdoors?

Yep, us too. That's why we send you the best local adventures, stories, and expert advice, right to your inbox.
