Canoe the Buttonwood Canal - Everglades National Park
Homestead, Florida
Description
Added by Torin Glass
Canoe in alligator infested waters close to the Flamingo Visitor Centre. Great for families.
Starts at the marina right behind the Flamingo Visitor Centre in Everglades National Park. At $25-$35 for canoe rental to take up the canal its reasonably priced. We took a large canoe and got 4 Adults and 1 child in it. Lots of birds and alligators.
Its an up and back canal ride on flat waters through a mangrove forest. 2 hours up and back to Coot bay at the end. There is a pipe in Coot bay which amplifies the sounds of the dolphin's echoes underwater.
With Florida enjoying warm weather year-round this makes a great spot in the winter too.
The canoe trip can be extended to several days along the Bear Lake canoe trail or explore the 9-mile canoe trail nearby
