Description

Added by Kelley Le

Heading to Panther Creek Falls, a trail winds through dense forest to take you past a series of waterfalls until you reach the final destination in the Chattahoochee National Forest.

Park at the Panther Creek Recreation Area. The fee to park here is $4. There is extra parking alongside the road if the parking lot is full.

The trail begins opposite the parking area, noted by a wooden sign. The trail gains elevation here and there with several drop-offs secured by cable cord fences.

At 3.5 miles, you will reach Panther Creek Falls where the water flows into a large pool. Here, there is a large camping spot with flat ground, two fire pits made of stones around the area, and trees dispersed throughout the site (great for hammocks, slack lines, and clothes lines).

Head home to the trail head by following the same trail back or camp at one of the primitive campsites along the trail.

Panther Creek Falls Reviews

Nice hike, walking along the river the whole way. Make sure to wear good hiking shoes

Have been on this hike twice now and I would definitely recommend. There are some spots about halfway through the trail that are a little tricky to navigate but definitely worth it. The falls at the end are absolutely beautiful and well worth the hike.

I just completed the trail for the second time this weekend. It’s 3.5 miles to the falls and then 3.5 miles back for a total of 7 miles. Your initial dissent is down word into a flat area for most of the journey. The last leg before the waterfall you will deal with incline and rocks. Unfortunately due to quite a bit of traffic some of the safety features that have been installed are in decrepit shape hanging off the rock faces providing no adequate safety holds. Given that I’m not one to need those handrails it wasn’t that big of a concern for me. Once you make your final dissent the waterfall will be to your left and a gorgeous swimming pool of water if you go in late spring summer or early fall I recommend bringing a swimsuit you will definitely want to dive in and cool off. Our most recent hike in the fall all along the trail work campers setting up for their overnight stays as long as people pack it in and pack it out I have no concern with that but it seem to be quite a bit of trash along the trail. This is one of my favorite hikes and Georgia I’m sad to see it come to the state that it’s in at this time but would definitely recommend it as long as you are an experienced hiker that does not require safety rails

Panther Creek Falls is one of those waterfalls that is just so much bigger than it looks in photos, so I definitely recommend going to see it in person. The pool at the base of the falls also makes for a great refreshing swim. With that said, I do not plan on re-visiting this trail anytime soon. The trail was not very scenic for long sections, so the 7 miles seems to drag on forever on the return. There were also a ton of people on the trail and at the waterfall which was fine, but made it hard to get a real rhythm going on the trail when you have to step aside to let people pass every couple of minutes. If I were to go again, I would camp at one of the many campsites along the way and pack up and get out early before most of the crowds arrive.

I would definitely recommend skipping this hike. The trail is in rough shape from the high volume it sees. It appears to be a VERY popular camping trail. There are camp sites the whole way along. There is also trash everywhere it's disgusting how people leave it. There are far more beautiful places to see this would be last on my list.

It was a nice hike and I entirely enjoyed it. Make sure you have friends to go with you, and a swim suit. The pool at the end is where the real fun is.
