Cockspur Island Lighthouse from Fort Pulaski

The Lighthouse Trail starts at the visitors center at Fort Pulaski. You can take your time and go inside the fort and learn about its history before you start to journey down the 1.7 mile trail to the lighthouse. This is a very easy trail that is suited for just about anyone. You will be walking down a dirt trail and in some sand once you get close to the lighthouse so it is not accessible to wheelchairs. There is no elevation gain throughout this trail and you should expect it to take around 45 minutes to walk. Once you start on the trail you will walk around the fort and begin walking along the marsh. You will have great views of the channels that feed into the Savannah River as you walk. There are benches placed along the trail if you want to sit down and enjoy the view. You will then walk through a wooded area of the trail until you reach a small bridge that will give you a far away view of the lighthouse from one side, and a view of the fort on the other. You will walk a little bit further until you wrap around to have a close up view of the lighthouse. Depending on what time of day it is and how high the tide is determines how close you can get to the lighthouse. This trail is good anytime of the year, but if you choose to go during the summer you will face hot temperatures and high humidity.
